When to install permanent Christmas lights in Michigan
September is the sweet spot. Here's why early-fall installs save you November stress, plus what cold-weather installation actually requires.
The best month to install permanent Christmas lights in Michigan is September. You'll get every fall and holiday on the system, beat the November booking rush, and benefit from the dry, mild weather that keeps fascia work on schedule. Installs are still possible October–February, but the calendar fills fast and cold complicates the work.
Best month to install
September. The fascia is dry, the weather's mild, our calendar is open, and you bank every holiday for the year ahead.
The full Michigan installation window
We can install track-mounted RGB+W systems any time the fascia isn't iced over. Here's what each window actually looks like:
| Conditions | Lead time | Notes | |
|---|---|---|---|
| September | Ideal — dry, mild | 1–2 weeks | Best mix of weather and openings |
| October | Good | 2–4 weeks | Calendar tightens fast after mid-month |
| November | Possible | Full by mid-month | Rush windows only after Oct 15 |
| December–February | Cold-weather only | Limited | Slower install, possible reshoot |
| March–August | Wide open | Same week | Off-season pricing available |
Why early matters more than people think
Permanent lighting isn't just a Christmas system. The same RGB+W track supports every holiday — orange for Halloween, red-white-blue for July 4, warm white for daily porch lighting. The earlier you install, the more holidays you actually use it.
What the install day actually looks like
For a typical single-story home, we're on-site about 6 hours from arrival to walkthrough.
- Walk the elevations with you. Mark the track route on the fascia.
- Cut and color-match the track to your fascia. From the curb in daylight, you don't notice it.
- Mount with stainless fasteners; seal each penetration.
- Run the controller line to the closest power tap; conceal it.
- Pair the controller with your phone. Walk you through the app.
By dinner the same day, your house has a full holiday light system.
Permanent vs. seasonal: 5-year cost
If you'll be in your home four years or more, the math usually favors permanent.
| Permanent | Seasonal install/take-down | |
|---|---|---|
| Up-front cost | $3,800–$5,500 | $0 |
| Annual labor | $0 | $550–$950/yr |
| 5-year total | $3,800–$5,500 | $2,750–$4,750 |
| 10-year total | $3,800–$5,500 | $5,500–$9,500 |
| App control | Yes | No |
| Other holidays | Yes | No |
| Annual storage | None | Required |
What about my fascia?
We've never had a leak callback. Stainless fasteners mount into the fascia (not the shingles), every penetration is sealed, and the track itself is mechanically supportive — bulbs are recessed inside it, which is why they stay invisible from the curb.
